Babe
I was driving toward Jamestown one morning when I saw a frame house abandoned by the side of the road. It was surrounded by sumac trees and tiger lilies. Looking through old film and negatives, halfway vanished, I could see a girl sitting in a wheelchair.
I spoke to a neighbor about a particular photograph and he remembered the name, Dorabelle. People called her Babe, he said. She sold flowers by the roadside with her mother. Dorabelle loved animals and plants. It is my hope that her spirit continues to travel with this story.
This publication contains a collection of digitally restored images retrieved from the house, handwritten letters, along with my own writing and photographs.
